Lucy blog

Have you ever heard of a chimp acting so human like that it was no longer an ape. Well if you haven't then you have never heard about Lucy. She was a chimpanzee that was raised in a house and socialized with humans. She became so human she could never be an ape again. In the end though she could never be human enough to live in our world.

Lucy's parents were killed right after she was born because of this she made the perfect test subject of whether or not apes could act like a human. She became more and more human over her years with the people that had adopted her. In the end though she could never be human enough and ended up in a caged off part of the house. The people that had adopted then decided to release her in the wild so she could be an ape again. Lucy did not do well and almost died before she was taken to an island with many other apes that had been humanized. It still took many years but in the end Lucy returned to her ape habits. The people that had helped her get used to the outdoors again returned two years later to see what was happening to her. They found her dead killed by poachers.

Lucy thought us that if chimps have close contact with humans that they become something in between human and ape not quite human not quite ape. This means that all humans have primal instincts that we suppress to be considered human by all the other humans. I have always believed that apes but I never understood that chimpanzees were the most advanced. I also never understood that they could be so human like. I believe that the experiment cost Lucy here life not only in a literal but also in that she could never live her life as a chimp because of this I will never believe that it was worth while. Lucy death made me very sad not just because she was killed by poachers but also because she was very trusting of humans because of how she had been raised.

Thinking Like a Mountain

Imagine that you bared witness to all the animals and plants changing, disappearing but couldn't do anything about it. That's what thinking like a mountain is. Always watching never able to fix. Knowing all but not able to tell anyone.

In this story there is a man how realizes that all animals are important good and bad they keep the ecosystem in balance diversity=stability. He realizes that if you kill off all the predators the prey grows in population and everything becomes unbalanced and the ecosystem begins to fall apart. He says that if had been a mountain he would have seen it a lot earlier.

My thoughts on this paper are that he is very true and that humans need to think about the future and the past at the same time when they are making decisions. People need to think longer than their life spans. They also need to think about the other animals and plants besides humans.

Ted talks video response

Imagine all the trees in a state or country disappeared people would be in an outrage. This is happening right now you just can't see it. Reefs all over the world are vanishing because of over fishing and other thing.

I here to tell you about one man who changed that in the phoenix islands. His name is Greg Stone he is a marine biologist. He has worked all over the world and been all the way down to 16,000 feet below sea level. He has been going to the phoenix islands for over 10 years. His first year there he came up with a radical idea "Reverse Fishing Licenses." The idea behind these are to give money to the country in question for not letting people fish in their waters. Since then Greg has proven that any reef can survive if it is not over fished.

My personal views on this video or that Greg is doing an amazing job with this reverse fishing license. I believe that his finding and how he raises peoples' awareness are going to save the coral reefs and our fish populations of the world. Even if it is only one island at a time he will help reverse the effects of what has happened so far.
